IGTV: What YOU Should Know

Have you heard about, or noticed, IGTV? Well, IGTV is Instagram’s new platform for longer videos. Essentially, this can be a substitute for Youtube, if you’re an Instagram user, which you should be. This BIG announcement came a few weeks ago and it’s already a large success, responding to the popularity of longer videos on social media.

IGTV is an independent app, or can be used through Instagram. The videos are full-screen, vertical videos that anyone can upload, these videos can be up to an hour long. IGTV works just like your living room TV, minus the numbered channels. Channels on IGTV are your usernames, you search various users via their Instagram username (i.e. @centerlyne).

To find new IGTV accounts to follow, you can swipe up and switch between the accounts that you follow or accounts that you don’t follow, but is currently trending. At anytime you can resume watching videos you’ve started previously or select from content that IGTV’s algorithm thinks you’ll like, based on your past viewing habits. You will also be able to access another user’s IGTV content from a designated spot underneath their Instagram bio. Like other content on Instagram, IGTV supports likes, comments and video sharing via direct messages.

As a brand, you should understand that with IGTV you can create series. Whether that series be educational, fun, or engaging, it can be a strong platform to get our your messages. The current downside to IGTV is that the platform is not set up for advertisements. So, no “sponsored” content to show up, we’re sure that will change in time!
